Matilda

Many young readers say that Matilda is their very favorite Roald Dahl book!  In Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, the magic comes from Mr. Wonka (or perhaps the factory itself?  Or the Oompa-Loompas?)  In Matilda’s case, the magic comes from herself!  And she needs all of it to deal successfully with her terrible parents and a villainous headmistress.

Inkheart

What if you found out one day that your parents could create magical worlds just by speaking?  That’s what happens to Meggie, a regular kid, who is suddenly catapulted into the world of Inkheart when her father reads out loud.  Inkheart is more sinister than The Chocolate Factory, however, and doesn’t have the fun of the world where the Oompa-Loompas sing their songs.  But it’s a big, imaginative place and many kids are big fans of the series.
